People say all of the time… I followed my gut.

Yet, after coaching people for over 25 years, I know that the gut, or what people think is their inner knowing, isn’t so clear.

As a soul coach, I’ve honed my intuition to align with what my soul needs and I’ve helped my clients follow their personal soul.

You’re seeking a way to build and self-trust and your intuitive guidance.

This article offers great intuition development exercises as well as some considerations for when you’re trying to know what your guts telling you.

Intuition Meaning

Intuition = your sixth sense.

Intuition is that subtle nudge that guides us towards or away from certain choices, even when we can’t fully articulate why.

We say… I felt it in my gut.

Intuition is simply our brain’s ability to process vast amounts of information quickly and subconsciously.

While our conscious mind can only handle a limited amount of information at once, our subconscious is constantly absorbing and analyzing data from our environment, past experiences, and subtle cues we might not even be aware of.

When we tap into our intuition, we’re accessing this wealth of knowledge and experience.

Since the gut can be wrong, I like to journal my intuitive hits and see how often I was right… or wrong. It’s simple…

Throughout the day I jot down the intuitive hits I get. I write it in a folder in my phone or in my journal. Then, I go back later and see how many things happened and make a note.

Integrating intuition into your daily life

Developing your intuition isn’t just about doing specific exercises.

It’s also about creating an environment and mindset that allows your intuitive abilities to grow!

Here are some tips for incorporating intuition into your everyday spiritual life.

Practice mindfulness

The more present and aware you are in each moment, the easier it is to pick up on subtle intuitive cues.

Try to incorporate mindful moments throughout your day, whether it’s savoring your morning coffee or really listening to a friend without planning your response.

Trust your first impression

When meeting new people or encountering new situations, pay attention to your initial gut reaction.

While it’s important not to judge solely on first impressions, these instinctive responses can offer valuable insights.

Your gut can be wrong!

Sometimes we’re reacting to something within us… and something about them triggers the thing in us.

The beauty of intuition development exercises is that you begin to recognize the difference.

With time, you’re able to question your gut without ignoring it.

Keep an intuition journal

At the end of each day, jot down any intuitive hunches you had and whether they turned out to be accurate.

You’ll be surprised how useful this simple practice is!

This practice will help you start recognizing patterns in your intuitive hits.

Create space for stillness

In our busy, noise-filled world, it can be hard to hear our inner voice.

Make time each day for quiet reflection, whether through meditation, a solitary walk, or simply sitting in silence for a few minutes.

Listen to your body

This is a big deal.

The body shows you how you feel.

Regardless of WHY you feel that way… the body will show you if you’re tense, anxious, afraid, angry.

Pay attention to physical sensations like tension in your shoulders, butterflies in your stomach, or a sudden feeling of lightness.

Your emotions don’t always tell you something accurate about the outside world… but they might.

That’s where intuition comes in.

If someone feels scary to you… your body will respond, and it’s most likely right.

When it comes to emotions, I advocate feeling them instead of thinking about them… because it helps you heal your life.

Here are emotional release techniques to help you along those lines.

Here’s a feelings wheel to help you articulate how you’re feeling.

Follow your curiosity

When you feel drawn to a particular book, conversation, or idea, follow that pull.

Your intuition often guides you towards information or experiences that will be valuable to you.

Final thoughts

Developing your intuition takes time, trial and error.

As you practice these exercises and integrate intuitive awareness into your daily life, you’ll likely find that your gut… becomes clearer and more reliable.

Remember, intuition isn’t about abandoning logic or critical thinking.

Instead, it’s about integrating your emotions with your rational mind to make more holistic decisions.
