What Is Your Spirit & 4 Practical Ways to Access It
Your spirit is the part of you that soars without limits. It connects directly to something greater, whether you call it God, Source, or the universe. What is your spirit? It is your inner light that reaches upward, remaining steady even while your soul learns and evolves through experience.
When you feel fully alive, deeply peaceful, or genuinely inspired, treat that as your spirit coming through. Let those moments remind you what’s true beneath fear, stress, or mental noise.
When you need your spirit
You need your spirit when you want to feel uplifted. When you need hope. When you’re looking for inspiration or a fresh perspective on something that’s been on your mind.
Your spirit is what lifts you up and helps you see things clearly again. It’s what you tap into when you want to feel hopeful, energized, or ready to try something new.
It’s the part of you that knows you’re loved, that you’re enough, and that good things are possible.
But, when you try to explain it, the word spirit feels abstract. Is it energy? Intuition? Something divine?
After years of soul coaching and guiding clients through soul work, I’ve learned that while your soul does the work on the ground, your spirit helps you rise above it all. It’s a very necessary part of the spiritual equation.
If you’ve ever wondered about your spirit, you’re in the right place. Let’s get started.
The difference between spirit and soul
The terms spirit and soul often get used interchangeably, but there’s a distinct difference. As I’ve written in my article my spiritual blog, I say…
“Your spirit is the part of you that soars. It’s connected directly to God/Source/universe and is unlimited.”
Meanwhile the soul is eternal, evolving, and the true essence of you.
Think of it like this: your spirit is the spark that says yes, this is where you’re meant to go, while your soul handles the journey, the steps, the soul lessons, the evolution.
I’ve said, the spirit is like a five-year-old kid who believes she can do anything, while the soul struggles a bit and is imperfect.
Why your spirit matters
When you understand your spirit, you recognize the part of you that dreams without limits.
It’s the energy that fuels your soul purpose and reminds you of what’s possible. When you align with your spirit, life opens up—you stop trying to control everything and instead start listening to the guidance already flowing through you.
One of my favorite doctors of the soul is James Hillman. He speaks about the spirit so beautifully that I highly recommend his best selling book: The Soul’s Code: In Search of Character and Calling.

How Your Spirit Shows Up in Life
Your spirit communicates through energy, vision, and inspiration. It guides you toward opportunities, challenges, and spiritual growth.
Recognizing its presence allows you to move with clarity and purpose rather than confusion.
Vision beyond your present
Your spirit often shows up not through logic, but through feelings, ideas, or sudden insights about what could be possible.
When I shifted from life-coach to soul-coach, my spirit pointed clearly to the new path. It doesn’t rely on analysis; it simply provides motivation and direction.
Alignment with your soul’s purpose
Your spirit and soul are partners.
The spirit knows your purpose; the soul executes it. When I’ve talked bout this before I’ve said…
“Your spirit holds up a screen of the biggest scenario for the expression of your soul’s purpose in this life. And then, the soul does the work here.”
Understanding this connection gives shape to your life journey.
A dynamic, energetic presence
Spirit isn’t static—it’s alive and connected to universal energy. Everything has a vibration, and your spirit senses resonance. Certain choices feel alive, while others feel off. Recognizing these cues strengthens your ability to act in soul alignment.

Practical Ways to Connect with Your Spirit
Connecting with your spirit requires practice, attention, and intention. Small daily steps cultivate awareness and trust in your guidance.
1. Quiet time and open space
To engage your spirit, create stillness. Meditation, journaling, or time in nature opens a channel for your spirit to come forward. As I wrote in The Butterfly Silhouette, your spirit calls you toward what you’re meant to become.
2. Ask the future-you question
Focus on what could be. Ask: “If I were living fully from my spirit, what would I be doing right now?” Let your imagination guide without judgment. This helps your soul align with your spirit’s vision.
3. Observe your energy and emotion
Your spirit often communicates through emotional energy—excitement, inspiration, or calm certainty. These signals are worth noticing. When you feel an energetic shift, pay attention to where it leads.
4. Let the spirit-soul partnership guide you
You don’t have to choose between spirit and soul—they’re aligned. The spirit says yes; the soul takes steps. Once you engage with your spirit, bring your soul’s wisdom into action—clarity, integrity, and small steps toward growth.

When Your Spirit Feels Stuck & How to Unblock It
Even when your spirit is active, accumulated emotional energy can prevent you from feeling it. Here are some possible barriers…
Resistance through fear or conditioned thinking
Your spirit may call clearly, but fear or doubt often interferes. These feelings are natural. Acknowledge them, but let them guide you rather than control you. Courage is your soul’s resource for supporting your spirit.
Confusing the spirit’s energy with ego
True spirit guidance is expansive and purposeful, not driven by ego. If your “calling” feels competitive, performative, or anxious, you may be responding to ego rather than spirit. Your spirit’s guidance is calm, aligned, and constructive.
Lack of action
Spirit provides inspiration, but your soul provides execution. Transformation requires movement. The twelve-principle metamorphosis process I share guides you from insight to action, activating your spirit in tangible ways.
Bringing Spirit Into Your Daily Life
Integrating spirit into your everyday life allows it to guide decisions, shape experiences, and enhance purpose.
Create a spirit-scorecard
Daily reflection like: Did I honor my spirit today? this builds trust and awareness that yes, this side of you is real!
Journal or note moments when you aligned with your energy or purpose. This kind of underlines it in your mind.
Anchor in ritual
Ritual doesn’t need to be elaborate. A few minutes of breathwork, journaling, or gratitude helps shift your focus from mundane tasks to spiritual alignment.
Invite support from your Spirit Team
You have internal and external allies, intuition, spirit guides, synchronicities that remind you of support. Engaging your team strengthens connection and momentum toward aligned action.
Living From Spirit
Living from your spirit means making choices that feel alive, purposeful, and true. It doesn’t remove challenges, it reframes them as opportunities for alignment.
Your spirit is the version of you that embraces growth, courage, and freedom. When you act from spirit, life unfolds with clarity and ease, and even obstacles become invitations to remember your greater self.
Final Thoughts
Recognizing what is your spirit means meeting the part of you that is limitless and luminous.
It enhances your soul, body, and mind.
Your spirit says yes; your soul walks the path; your body grounds you. Your spirit is always active, calling you toward growth, courage, and expansion.
The question isn’t whether you have a spirit, the real question is: Will you lean into it?
